Happy Birthday, Molly! A Springtime Story

 This book is about Molly and her new friend from England, who came because of the war. When that English girl comes to stay at Molly's, during World War II, she and Molly learn to bridge their differences after they got in a big fight right before the big party. Will they end the fight or have a bad party?

ABOUT THE SERIES
The American Girls series is written to formula, and yes, it is heavily promoted commercialy to sell dolls and related accessories. But the dolls are well crafted and so are the stories. Each book ends with several pages of illustrated factual "Looking Backward'' information. The writing style is lively, the characters believable although not deeply delineated, and the action in the short chapters is enough to hold the attention of young readers.
American Girl is a line of dolls, books, and accessories based on teen girl characters that originally focused on various periods of American history from the viewpoint of girls and has now expanded to include dolls of and stories about contemporary girls. The company was founded in 1986 by Pleasant Rowland, and its products were originally purchasable by mail order only. In 1998, Pleasant Company became a subsidiary of Mattel. The company has been awarded the Oppenheimer Toy Award, eight times.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Valerie Tripp has written numerous novels in the Pleasant Company's popular "American Girls Collection" series, and focuses her writing on historical fiction for girls between ages seven and twelve. The "American Girl" books are subdivided into smaller sequences, each of which focuses on a particular girl living in a unique period of American history: Felicity lives in 1774, Josefina lives in 1824, Samantha lives in 1904, Kit in 1934, and Molly in 1944. Each book also includes a section of factual information about the time period of the story.
